General

Rachel House is an Indonesian foundation providing free palliative care to children living with life-limiting illness, and training health workers so that this care reaches further than our own team can.

It is care that focuses on comfort and quality of life for a child with a serious illness — managing pain and other symptoms, supporting the family, and helping a child live as fully as possible. It is not the same as end-of-life care and it does not replace treatment.

Our home visiting service operates across Jakarta. Our training program reaches health workers in other parts of Indonesia. [Replace with the current geographic scope.]

Children’s palliative care

No. Palliative care runs alongside curative treatment and can begin at diagnosis. Many children we support are still receiving chemotherapy or antiretroviral therapy.

When prescribed and monitored by trained clinicians, opioid analgesia is recognised internationally as appropriate for treating severe pain in children. Decisions about any individual child’s medication are made by their treating clinicians — this page is general information, not medical advice.

Children with life-limiting conditions whose families need support managing symptoms at home. Referrals come from hospitals, clinics and community health workers. [Replace with current referral criteria.]

Contact our team through the contact page and we will explain the referral process and what information is needed.
